"The Masque Of The Red Death"
by Edgar Allen Poe
Adapted for radio by D. Chapelle
The story takes place at the abbey-turned-castle of wealthy Prince Prospero. Prospero
has invited 1,000 other nobles to join him in this fortress to escape the Red Death, a terrible plague
with horrible symptoms that has destroyed thousands of lives. Prospero and his companions, while indifferent to the sufferings
of others, intend to await the end of the plague in luxury and safety behind the
walls of their secure refuge, having welded the doors shut.
One of the interesting things about doing radio drama is that you don’t
have to look the part to perform the part. A short guy can play a basketball player or a sweet little girl can play a cranky old
woman or a teenager can play a senior citizen. Case in point is an actor named Casey Kasem. He started playing Shaggy in the
Scooby-Doo cartoons when he was thirty-seven years old and kept at it until he was seventy-seven. It also means you can use
as few or as many actors as you’d like. If you have any questions about how any of this works drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org
